Why Bearings Fail?
Bearing Failure Causes
Over "Shelf life" or "Expired" Bearings
Over sheIf life storage exposes bearings to dampness, dust, contamination,
corrosion and degrade a grease’s/lubricant shelf life.

What to Look for
Watch for expiry of bearings, dampness, humidity level and temperatures of storage area.

How to Fix it
Always use the fresh manufactured bearings with valid expiry, store bearings in a dry area at recommended room temperatures. Always cover bearings to keep them clean while in storage and take them to the installation site before unwrapping.
Lubrication failure in the bearings
According to a recent study, up to 80 percent of bearing failures are caused by improper lubrication. This includes expiration of lubrication, insufficient lubrication and use of over
shelf life lubricants which loose the anti-wear properties and dose not performed the shaving during bearing operation.

What to Look for
Look for discolored rolling elements (such as blue or brown) and rolling-element tracks as well as linear wear marks in the axial direction at the rolling-element pitch in the bearing.

How to Fix it
Always use the valid expiry bearings, appropriate type and correct amount of lubricant, and follow appropriate re-lubrication intervals.
Contamination in the bearings
A one of the reason of contamination is over shelf life or expire bearings, during operation of bearings steel chipped off from raceways.

What to Look for
Watch for denting of rolling elements and raceways that cause vibration.

How to Fix it
Fresh manufactured bearings with proper expiry can eliminate the risk of contamination.
Corrosion in the bearings
Moisture, acid, low-quality or expired/over shelf life bearings, poor packing/wrappings and condensation can cause corrosion that is abrasive to the finely finished surfaces of ball and roller bearings.

What to Look for
Look for red and brown stains or deposits on rolling elements, raceways or cages, as well as increased vibration followed by wear, an increase in radial clearance.

How to Fix it
Select fresh & valid stock of bearings, integrally sealed bearings and consider external seals for particularly hostile environments. Using the proper bearing material, such as stainless steel, if you cannot avoid a corrosive environment.
